How do you generate certificates in bulk?
Design one certificate in Canva, put one person per row in a spreadsheet, then generate a PDF or image per row. Canva Bulk Create does this inside the editor on paid Canva plans. Layerre does it from the same Canva file via API, Zapier, Make, or n8n, with 50 free credits or $15/month for 500.
A finished certificate with one sample name on it is not the hard part. The hard part is the roster. Use this for course completions, event attendance, and internal awards. Diplomas, licenses, and anything meant to look like an official credential belong with the issuer, not in a template tool.

A class, event, or awards list
- Design the certificate in Canva. Give the name its own text box, larger than the course title and the date. Ungroup the sample layout so those three lines are separate layers.
- Make a sheet with columns
name, detail, anddate. One person per row. Write the date the way it should print, such as26 Sep 2026. For attendance, addsessionorrole. - Run Canva Bulk Create if you are on Pro, Teams, or Enterprise and you will download a zip by hand (desktop, Apps tab). Or paste the Canva share link into Layerre and map those columns.
- Render the first row and read it at print size. Then generate the rest as PDF (to file or print) or PNG (to drop in an email).
- Email the files from your spreadsheet tool, Zapier, Make, or n8n. The generator stops at the file.
A 40-person workshop
Columns are name, session, and date. The session and date repeat. The name does not. Fifty free credits cover that list plus a few reprints if a name was spelled wrong. A few hundred names is the $15 Starter plan (500 credits).
Who fits which tool
- Canva Bulk Create: you are already in the editor and the list is a one-off. No API, and it does not watch the sheet for new rows.
- Certifier or Certify'em: you want course delivery and email built into their product.
- Bannerbear, Orshot, or CraftMyPDF: you will rebuild the certificate in their editor for an API.
- Layerre: the design already exists in Canva and you want a sheet or API without Canva Enterprise.
What breaks the first batch
The sample name is still in the file. The course title shares a text box with the recipient. A photo frame points at a Google Drive preview link instead of a URL that returns the image. Generate one row before you run the list.
