How do you generate an image URL?

An image URL is a public HTTPS link that returns the image bytes. Host the file, or render a template and use the URL the API returns. Layerre renders a Canva design and gives you that URL. Do not paste a Google Drive preview link and expect it to work as an image.

An image URL is the address of the file itself. Paste it in a browser and you should see the picture, not a webpage with a download button. Email tools, Open Graph tags, ad accounts, and Canva image frames all fetch that address. If the address returns HTML, they show a broken image.

A usable image URL:

  • starts with https://
  • returns JPEG, PNG, or WebP bytes, not an HTML page
  • stays available for as long as something else needs to fetch it
  • is not a share link that asks the viewer to sign in

Ways to get one

  1. Upload the file to your site, a CDN, or an image host and copy the direct file address. It usually ends in .png, .jpg, or .webp, though some hosts hide the extension. The test is the response type, not the filename.
  2. Render a template. Layerre's API responds with a URL for the generated image. Store that URL on the lead, product, or post so the next system does not have to render again.
  3. Skip Google Drive preview links, Dropbox share pages, and signed links that expire. Those are pages or temporary grants. They are the usual reason a Canva photo frame or an og:image tag comes back blank.

When the picture changes per row

If the name, price, or product photo is different every time, generating the file is faster than uploading by hand. The script sends the row, the API returns a fresh URL, and you save that URL. Start at script image generation or the API docs.

How to check a URL in ten seconds

Open it in a private window. If you see the image, other servers can probably fetch it too. If you see a login wall or a viewer with a Download button, replace the link before you map it.
