What are the best tools for templated content?

Pick the tool by the format. Email and docs stay in your email or docs tool. Images and PDFs designed in Canva are filled by Layerre. Video needs Creatomate or Bannerbear. An editor inside your app is Polotno.

Templated content means the layout is allowed to stay still. A campaign, a course, or a catalog produces many versions of one design: a new headline, a new name, a new photo. If every version is a different composition, you are designing, not filling a template, and no merge tool will save you.

Pick the tool by the file you need at the end, not by whichever product showed up in a search for "templates."

What the template should let you swap

Text, images, and sometimes a color. Name the Canva layers after your spreadsheet columns so the sheet is the only thing that changes between versions. A title and a subtitle in the same text box cannot be filled independently.

A useful test

Take three real rows from the campaign, not lorem ipsum. If the same frame still looks right with the longest name, the shortest headline, and a missing photo, the template is ready. If you have to nudge the layout for row two, it is not a template yet.

Where Layerre fits

The design stays in Canva. Layerre is the fill step: map columns, generate, send the URL. Free is 50 credits, then $15 a month for 500. Documents and email copy stay in the tool that already sends them. Video stays with a video template product. More on the image tools: best automated graphics tools.
